Spatial and Temporal Variations of Stable Isotopes in Precipitation in the Mountainous Region, North Hesse

Patterns of stable isotopes water (18O and 2H) in precipitation have been used as tracers for analyzing environmental processes which can be changed by factors such the topography or meteorological variables. In this study, we investigated isotopic data one year low mountain range North Hesse, Germany, analyzed mainly altitude, rainfall amount, air temperature effects on a regional scale. The results indicate that composition expressed an altitude effect with gradient ?0.14‰/100 m ?18O, ?0.28‰/100 ?2H 0.83‰/100 Deuterium excess. enrichment during warmer months depletion colder were detected. Seasonal correlations not consistent because was superimposed other amount effects, vapor origins, orographic rainout processes, moisture recycling, sub-cloud secondary evaporation. Precipitation mostly affected evaporation mixing summer while depleted moisture-bearing fronts condensation more responsible isotope winter. autumn spring, prominent combination large-scale convective processes. also detected surface water. elevation transect multiple stations provided unique insights into hydrological climatic Hesse spatial heterogeneity different suggest are required when serve forcing applications transit time assessments complex terrains.
